Swingman Jaka Blazic is spending his first season in an ACB team with Laboral Kutxa Baskonia. The 25-year old Slovenian scored 11 points in 15 minutes against Emporio Armani in the Euroleague debut and averages 5.0 points in 18 minutes in the Liga Endesa so far. EJDN could talk with him after one of his first games in Spain.
Still in the first weeks of the season, Laboral Kutxa looks in at least a pretty decent shape. I guess coach Perasovic has pushed you in the preseason to practice hard, right?
We’ve worked hard. We did. And we improve day by day. It’s going to be a long season. A lot of games ahead of us, so we have to go to every practice confident and with motivation for the next game.
Your first season in the ACB. What did you expect from the league?
I can see now that the game here is very fast. A lot of rhythm in games, a lot of fast breaks. I like it and I expect to adapt quickly and help my teammates as much as I can.
Many times in the past few years you’ve faced Spanish teams in the Euroleague. Why coming now to the ACB and why Vitoria?
I know Vitoria from a long time ago. I used to watch them play on TV when they were the Tau Cerámica. It wasn’t a hard decision. I wanted to take a step forward in my career and this is the right place to be.
Before signing, did you seek advice from any of the Slovenian players in the ACB?
I talked about it with Goran Dragic. He told me “go there right away. It’s a step in the right direction”. So, it wasn’t a hard decision to take at all.
Laboral Kutxa is very deep at the shooting guard and small forward positions. So, you will face a tough competition for minutes and the starting spots.
We are a good team. We improve going against each other in practice. All of us have many and different skills. Alberto Corbacho can shoot. Fabien Causeur can shoot too and play the pick and roll. I’m good in fast breaks and penetrations. Adam Hanga too. It’s going to be a fun season. I hope to win as many games as we can.
